As per a NASSCOM survey, in the year 2001-02, the ITES industry generated revenues of Rs 7,100 crore and was amongst the fastest growing sectors of the Indian economy. The NASSCOM-McKinsey report estimates that the IT Enabled industry can earn revenues of US$ 21-24 billion by 2008 and employ more than 1.1 million people.
With the growth of the ITES industry in India, there is an increasing realisation on the need to have a separate forum that can address the needs of this market segment.
NASSCOM as the apex industry association for IT software and services companies has played a key role in developing India's software sector and positioning India as the country of choice for outsourcing software requirements.
It was therefore felt that a 'ITES Forum' under NASSCOM can best serve the dual objectives of addressing the specific needs of the ITES industry and at the same time build the India brand in IT Enabled Services. |
